In February 2012 I was lucky enough to travel to New York with my friends as part of a school trip in my last year of secondary school. Our trip included visits to many of the most famous landmarks including the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 grounds.
It was such a great experience being able to walk around a huge city with such different lifestyle and culture to that in England. We were given privileges and trust which enabled us to explore the city in groups, although me and best friend snuck of multiple times to go shopping. Like I mentioned, we visited the Empire State Building. This was absolutely mind blowing. The chance to look out over such a huge well known city was just incredible! The lift up to the top was horrible though - only because I hate lifts but apart from that I couldn't fault it. I'd go back any day if I had the chance to.
Another amazing experience was the boat trip around the Statue of Liberty. Yes, boat trip. Unfortunately due to building work we were unable to walk on the island which meant we were also unable to climb the Statue. This was a little gutting but I hope to re visit in the future, because that would just be incredible.
One of the hardest hitting things on the trip was the visit to the 9/11 grounds. To see where such an event had happened was crazy and hard hitting! To think that it caused such controversy to so many people and to see the site itself brought a tear to everyones eye including mine. These are just a few of my favourite memories from the trip, which is a shame because I'd love to share more there are just way too many!
Talking about all of this travelling business, brings me onto talking about the travelling part of this post! Travelling across the atlantic to New York, was possibly the experience that has made me want to travel more. Its made me want to see more of the world and just experience so much more. Although it can be expensive, my aim is to travel a lot more in my life. I want to see more, and just ... get out there! Its one of those things that will never leave my mind. Im determined!
If there are any cites, countries or even experiences that you've loved, I'd love to hear from you in the comments below! Let me know if you have any travelling inspirations or aspirations!
