Interview with Shannon Saunders

Singer Shannon Saunders started her career back in 2009 when she first started posting covers of songs on her YouTube channel. To date her YouTube channel currently has over 36,000 subscribers with nearly 3million channel views. Her covers got her noticed and she was approached to audition for My Camp Rock 2, part of Disney Channel UK. She came first in the competition and her song 'I See The Light' was then featured in the Disney film 'Tangled'.
Since then she has worked with producers such as platinum selling music producer Jake Gosling on her work. In January 2013, Shannon released her first single titled 'Heart Of Blue', which you can download from iTunes here... itunes.apple.com/gb/album/heart for 79p.
Shannon then released her second single 'Scars' in July this year. She also has her own independent record company - Lovejoy Records, who hope to release her debut album EP this year.

Tell me something that no one knows about you?
I used to be a massive tomboy and played football when I was 12/13, then I discovered make up.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I'm really good at Suduko even though numbers scare me to death. Although I did manage to scrape a C in my Maths GCSE.

If you could perform with anyone who would it be?

I would LOVE to perform with Alt J because I love their sound and listen to their music almost everyday. Or Chris Martin. Coldplay are bloody great and my dad loves them so he'd be ecstatic. We sing along to their albums in the car. (badly)

Where have you enjoyed performing most this year and why?

I loved supporting Lucy Spraggan on tour this year. I got to play Shepherds Bush Empire which meant a hell of a lot to me. All my family were there and I've never played a venue that iconic before. Last time I was there I was sneaking backstage to meet a Jessie Ware with my sister and a couple of friends, so it was nice to be officially allowed in the dressing room.

How does it feel to have worked with producers such as Jake Gosling?

I've been lucky enough to work with a lot of great writers and producers over the last couple of years. People think it's difficult being unsigned to work with professional writers/producers but if you put the work in and impress them you can build great relationships. It makes it all the more rewarding when they ask to have you work with them again too. Jake is a great producer and very funny guy. I also love writing with Dee Adam who I've been writing with in her studio, "Narnia" as we call it, in portobello road since I was 15. My new single "Atlas" which is out on the 17th December is actually a Shannon and Dee track!

What are your plans for next year? Gigs? EP/Album?

In 2014 I hope to have my own solo tour around the UK. I will also hopefully have my Ep finished and released on my own label Lovejoy Records, which will feature 4 of my own songs. And ofcourse many more YouTube videos on my channel!
