Interview with Ryan Keen

Ryan Keen is a singer/songwriter from a small town in Devon named Totnes. Over the past two years he has toured around pretty much all of the UK. By doing so it has helped him create his own fan base. Ryan has had some incredible opportunities which include touring and playing with huge artists from the likes of Ben Howard to Ed Sheeran. In 2012, Ryan released his own EP titled 'Focus' which didn't go unnoticed. The EP was played several times on Radio 1.
I recently contacted Ryan and he very kindly answered some questions of mine. You can read them below!

When/how did your career start?
I've been playing guitar since I was eight, and started singing 5 years ago, but I've been doing it 'full time' for 2 years. It was after losing a friend that made me decide to pursue music as a solo artist.
Where was the first ever place you performed?
A small pub in South London to about 20 people, that was the most nervous I've ever been!

Who influences you to create the music you do?
There's lots of artists that I draw influence from as I have a really eclectic taste in music. It depends day to day and on my mood!
Is there anyone you'd wish to perform with in the future?
I'd love to work with a powerful female singer like Adele or Emile Sande.
In the last 18 months you have performed at over 300 gigs. Where has been your favourite place?
I think that probably has to be the Royal Albert Hall, it's such an incredible venue and so many of the greats have played there!

You've also just been signed internationally. Tell us more ...
It's quite a complicated deal but basically the album is being released in different record labels in different countries... The first country outside the UK to release it is Australia where it's being released by Warners
Whats been your best achievement to date?
Ummmm... I was the only unsigned artist to play at the iTunes festival last year so that was pretty cool.
For anyone who hasn't heard your album 'Room For Light' can you describe what to expect?
It's an insight into my thoughts and philosophies, drawing musical influences from folk, blues, flamenco.
What are your plans for 2014? And what do you hope to achieve?
It's gonna be busy, I start touring Australia on Jan 2nd and will be there all January, then I'll be off to tour in Europe, then starting into the festival season. I'm hoping to release the album and tour in lots of countries. I'll also be writing and recoding more!
